IntelliRupter® PulseCloser
Conventional reclosers test the line simply through uncontrolled closing into the fault — repeatedly applying damaging fault currents to equipment from the source to the fault. IntelliRupter utilizes S&C's revolutionary new PulseClosing™ Technology to test for faults. PulseClosing applies a very fast, low-energy pulse to the line — significantly reducing damaging fault currents and voltage sags on the faulted line as well as adjacent feeders. Substation transformers experience fewer through-faults, extending their life. Cables, conductors, splices, and terminations experience less thermal and mechanical stress from through-faults too.
IntelliRupter includes a base-integrated control that's accessed for configuration and operation via a secure WiFi link. This innovative approach improves reliability, operator safety, and convenience, and significantly enhances security compared to "lock-and-key" approaches found with most conventional reclosers.
IntelliRupter features:
- Vacuum interrupters with unique actuating system that enables PulseClosing™ Technology
- Integrated three-phase voltage sensing on both sides of the interrupters
- Integrated three-phase current sensing, providing linear output over the range from load to fault current
- An integrated power module on one or both sides of the interrupters. Eliminates need to install separate power transformers
- Solid dielectric insulation featuring S&C's Cypoxy® cycloaliphatic epoxy resin system.
IntelliRupter is offered in models with or without an integrated visible disconnect. Models rated 15.5 kV maximum can be applied on 60-Hz systems rated 11.43 through 15.57 kV, and 50-Hz systems rated 10 through 17.5 kV. Models rated 27 kV maximum can be applied on 60-Hz systems rated 18.81 through 27 kV, and 50-Hz systems rated 20 through 24 kV. All models have a 630/800-ampere continuous current rating and 12,500-ampere interrupting rating.
