July 13, 2010

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The GridWise® Alliance, in partnership with the United States Department of Energy, today announced the agenda for the inaugural GridWise® Global Forum, September 21-23 in Washington, DC. The three-day Forum will include:

  • A global snapshot of the smart grid today;
  • Next steps in the smart grid transformation; and
  • A view of the global smart grid revolution.

Thought leaders from the highest levels of government and the private sector in North America and around the globe will lead discussions on the impact of smart grid on energy use, investors and consumers (industrial, commercial and residential) and the environment.

"The agenda we have created seeks to foster global dialogue about the way the world generates, transmits, distributes and consumes electricity," said Guido Bartels, Chairman of the GridWise Alliance. "The outcomes of these discussions will have a profound impact on the way we view smart grid today and how we plan to modernize the electric system over the next 20 years."

The 2010 GridWise Global Forum kicks off on Tuesday, September 21, with an international perspective on the role of smart grid and its impact on the energy ecosystem, the economy and the developing world. The opening session features Samuel J. Palmisano, Chairman, President and CEO, IBM; Michael Morris, CEO, American Electric Power; and Anders Eldrup, CEO, DONG Energy as they examine the role of a smart grid as the ‘ultimate enabler' focusing on the vision of the future and what bold steps are needed to start our journey.

Day Two of the Forum explores the projected development of smart grid over the next five years. Experts from around the globe will discuss and debate winning strategies to address consumer engagement, the role of wireless technologies, challenges of meeting the evolving workforce and development of international standards.

On the Forum's final day, discussions will focus on the future impact of smart grid on the utility business model, climate change and innovation. Thursday's keynotes will include an intimate conversation on the global energy future with Jeff Immelt, CEO of GE, and a look into the future with Saul Griffith, a world-renowned inventor, futurist and Chief Scientist, Other Labs.
